Lisa finished round 7 today, and is at home resting. Her CA 19-9 marker is now down to 196...remember, it started at 16,000. Normal is between 0 and 37, so she is getting closer to the norm:) She will do the Neupogen shot for 2 days (instead of 5), which is good! She is scheduled to go back in for the next round of chemo on Jan. 10. Lisa is looking forward to spending a wonderful, and thankful, Christmas with her family!

TUESDAY, DEC. 14
Lisa had a great weekend---she even drove to Joplin and back! --Yes, she did the driving!! She is also having a great week. Her doctor at Mayo thinks that some of the chemo drugs can be reduced, as well as the frequency of the treatments. He said it is time to be "gentle" to her body! This would hopefully mean shorter stays in the hospital! She is looking forward to a great weekend with family in Joplin before going in for round 7 on Monday! Merry Christmas to all!! God Bless!

Lisa is doing better as the week goes on. She was deyhrated and had to receive fluids earlier in the week. She also had a CT scan done due to a daily headache. The CT came back negative...better safe then sorry!
She rescheduled her next round of chemo for the 20th. She should be home in time for Christmas Eve/Christmas with her family. We are praying that she will stay healthy during this time of year when everyone seems to be getting sick with something out there! She will continue to wear her mask when she is around people. She is looking forward to some good days ahead!

Lisa finished this round of chemo and is back at home. It was a rough one for her. She was very nauseous and very tired throughout it. She has been sleeping most of the day. She will begin the Neupogen shot tomorrow, so please pray that these next 5 days of this shot will be gentle to her body. She is scheduled to do round 7 on the 13th of the month, and then round 8 on the 27th. She is ready to get through round 12 and start "living" again! I know she still enjoys reading your comments to this blog, as well as receiving your emails (helplisafight@yahoo.com). Thank you for all of your support. God is continuing his miraculous work inside of her:)

Chemo #6- Lisa checked in this morning for her 6th round of chemo. She had a wonderful Thanksgiving last week with her family in Joplin- complete with family pictures!!! She is very excited to see the pictures and felt really good the entire week. Lisa and her family have a lot to be thankful for this year and are so grateful for all of the support and prayers. Yesterday morning we went out for breakfast and she looked amazing. I am going to have to post some new pictures of her soon! We are planning a benefit lunch for her in January and will be asking everyone to raise some money on her behalf for medical bills and her disney trip with her family! If you are intersted in helping plan or have suggestions feel free to email me at reneeblackwell@yahoo.com as we are working out details now. Thanks again for your support and prayers! Love to you and yours and Happy Holidays!

Lisa is at home now! She was released this morning, and everything is looking good!
I have another sign of God's amazing work to share.....When we went to Mayo in August, they did a blood test to find out her CA 19-9 reading. This is a tumor marker (or substance produced because of cancer). It is used to evaluate how the patient is responding to treatment once it's started. The higher the number, the more advanced the disease is. Her reading at Mayo was 13,000 U/mL. Normal for a healthy person is between 0 and 37 U/mL (units per mililiter).---yes, you're reading the number correctly. When she started chemo in Springfield, the number was 16,000. Very high!! She requested that the test be done again over the weekend. Her number as of today is 532!!!!!--a huge drop!!!!
This is incredible news to receive!!! We continue to give God all the glory!
I probably won't post to this blog until after the holiday or until she starts chemo again on Monday. From our family to yours....Have a great Thanksgiving! We all have so much to be thankful for.

Lisa is feeling better today. Her neck is still swollen, but not as sore. She is still receiving Heparin through an IV. The doctor said she could be in the hospital anywhere from 3 days to a week.....of course, she is wanting out ASAP!! We were told that the clot in her neck is a new one---not an old one that had traveled from her lung to her neck. There is also talk of removing her port, which she doesn't want to happen. We should know more tomorrow. She appreciates all of your prayers.

Wednesday, Nov. 17
There has been a bump in the road.....Lisa was admitted this afternoon to the hospital in Springfield. She has a blood clot in her neck. She is receiving Heparin to try and control/get rid of this clot. She has been doing the injections (twice a day) of the blood thinner, Lovenox, to prevent any clots from forming. She has been doing these since we left Mayo in August (she had clots on each lung at that time). We are not sure how this new clot came to be. Please pray for her. We do not know how long she will be in the hospital. Her chemo treatment (round 6) is rescheduled for the 29th of this month.

You can send them an email at helplisafight@yahoo.com or call Steve at 417-827-9719.

3 months ago today, this crazy journey began!! Look what amazing things have happened!! God is truly a God of miracles.
Lisa had a good week. She did her 5 days of the Neupogen shot. She had her hair done, went to dinner with her hubby, and is headed to Branson for a night to celebrate her daughter turning 16. Nothing too crazy....just going to Dixieland Stampede for dinner (of course with her mask on!!!), and staying overnight in a cabin near the lake (THANK YOU Kelley). Just a relaxing time, and she deserves it!! She is scheduled to check into the hospital on Friday for round 6! Please continue to pray for her and her family!

Tuesday, Nov. 9
The results are back.....The PET scan showed a tiny, tiny spot in her pancreas BUT NOTHING (no tumors, no cancer) anywhere else (the first scan in August showed tumors in her peritoneal wall (lining of stomach)----and cancerous cells were found in her uterus). The CT scan on Friday showed no mass, and the PET scan was done for a better look. Radioactive dye was injected before the PET scan. This would "light up" any spots in her body. The only spot was this TINY one. This is truly a miracle of GOD!!! When we went to Mayo in August, the doctor told us that she would have to continue chemo every 2 weeks for the rest of her life. We weren't given a stopping point because I think the doctor was referring to " her life" in terms of months. If you have read anything about pancreatic cancer, the life expectancy isn't long. Now, the doctor said she needs to complete 12 rounds of chemo (she's already had 5), and then just have regular check ups and blood work done. I think my dad said it best...."we get to keep her"!! PRAISE THE LORD!!!! THANK YOU GOD!!!

Monday, Nov. 8 (3:00 PM)
Lisa had her PET scan this morning at 7:30. We will know the results either this afternoon or in the morning. This test will show if there are any active tumors in her body. She finished her 5th round of chemo last night. She checked out of the hospital around 10 this morning and is at home resting. I will post the results of the scan once we know something.
Friday, November 5, 2010
Friday,Nov. 5
This will give you chills......The CT scan results came back today and there was NO sign of a mass (5 cm tumor) in the head of the pancreas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God is so wonderful. This is truly a miracle. We are all thrilled beyond belief. Lisa is still in the hospital finishing chemo (round 5 started before the results were back), and will have a PET scan on Monday to see if there are any cancerous cells in her body. The doctor and the nurses were shocked to say the least. We are giving God all the glory.

Lisa wasn't feeling too great over the weekend, but is doing better today. She was tired, and felt like she had a cold or something similar. She got a lot of rest, and her husband grilled her a wonderful steak dinner! She is ready for Friday to get here, and get the CT scan done. She is scheduled to begin round 5 of chemo following the test. She will remain in the hospital over the weekend as she has with previous visits. Please pray that the results of the CT scan will be amazing! We would love to see how the healing power of God has worked in Lisa.

Thursday, Oct. 28
Lisa got home from the hospital Monday, and had a good day. She even got out for a mani/pedi!! Then, she started the Neupogen shot (the one for 5 days in a row after chemo). She is having a rough time with it. It makes the long bones in her body hurt as it is working to help with her white blood cell count. She will finish the shots on Sat., and is looking forward to some GOOD days before next Friday's CT Scan and Chemo.

Sunday, October 24
Lisa is doing a lot better at this time. She just finished eating Thai food, and is now taking a nap. She has about an hour left of the last bag of the chemo cocktail! She has been up walking around today. She is looking forward to going home in the morning.

Friday, October 22 5:30 PM
Lisa started her chemo around noon. She is having a rough time with it. She is in a lot of pain. She would love to answer your emails, texts, phone calls, but isn't feeling like it right now. She does appreciate everyone's support and prayers. Please pray for the pain to subside and for this round to not be so harsh on her body.
Friday, October 22
Lisa checked in the hospital this morning for round 4. She was able to walk to her room (she has needed a wheelchair in the past). She said that she feels great this time! She will be in the hospital until Monday. The doctor told her that the CT Scan would be done at the beginning of round 5--which will be in 2 weeks. She was a little disappointed at having to wait longer for the results, but that just gives God more time to do his miraculous work in her:) Please pray that she will have an "easy" weekend with this chemo.

Wednesday, October 20
Just got a call from Lisa.....she was at Panera Bread enjoying a nice lunch with mom! They also made a stop at WalMart for a few items! Lisa REALLY enjoyed getting out in the real world and feeling a little "normal" again. She did wear a mask---can't take a chance of catching anything!! She said her legs felt a little like jello since they haven't been used much:) It's great news that she's getting up and moving around! God is so good!!!!

Monday, October 18
Lisa had a great weekend! She even ventured out for some filet mignon with her hubby! She is working on getting up more and moving around this week to regain her strength. She is scheduled to be admitted Friday for her 4th round of chemo. She will be in the hospital all weekend, and then hopefully do a CT scan before going home. We are praying for miraculous results from this chemo. Lisa would love reading your comments on her blog, as stated before, or you can email her at helplisafight@yahoo.com.

Lisa is feeling a little better. She is very tired and a little nauseous. She is able to keep up her appetite...she had 3 bowls of Cinnamon Toast Crunch yesterday for breakfast:)
She is continuing to regain her strength after this last round of chemo. She would love to read your comments to her blog. Her days are long, so anything that can boost her spirit would be awesome!
Thank you for your continued prayers.

Lisa was released to go home this morning! Everything went well with this third round of chemo, and she is scheduled to do the fourth round on the 22nd of this month. She isn't feeling very well today, but we know God is continuing to take care of her. When she leaves the hospital following chemo, her immune system is very low. She is taking every precaution to avoid catching any virus or bug out there!

Great news today!!! Lisa's doctor said that the chemo MUST BE WORKING because Lisa has not had any fluid return to her abdomen. If you remember from the past, she has had to have this drained a few times....several liters!! So, this was wonderful news to all of us! We all NEEDED to hear something positive! Your prayers and support are working:) Thank you GOD!!!
Lisa is scheduled to finish chemo tomorrow night and then be released to go home on Monday. Her next chemo will be in 2 weeks, followed by a CT scan around Halloween! At this time she will have completed 4 rounds of chemo, and we are very anxious to see what's been going on inside her body!
I know she would love to read any comments you have to this blog! Her husband just bought her a lap top, so she would love to read your thoughts and prayers! Keep the FAITH!!!!

Lisa is scheduled to begin chemo tomorrow. She has been taking antibiotics for the infection in her throat. Now that she is not doing this through an IV, and is taking her meds orally, she can begin chemo. She is so ready to get round 3 going and get back to her home. She will be in the hospital throughout the weekend. She is still requesting no visitors at this time, but she is very appreciative of the prayers and support everyone is giving her and her family. Also, a big thank you to those of you who have been providing meals for them. God Bless you all.

Tuesday, Oct. 5
Monday was a rough day, but Lisa was given antibiotics and a steroid throughout the night to fight the infection. She was able to start talking, and eating, by morning. She wanted 3 breakfast burritos!!!!--and some chocolate covered raisins!! Her throat was not hurting, and she is feeling 100% better. She is hoping to start chemo tomorrow or Thurs. She will remain in the hospital for the rest of the week. Thank you for your prayers!!!

Lisa had a nice weekend with family but, on Sunday night had to go back to the ER and is now admitted again at St. John's. She was scheduled to have chemo again today but due to an infection in her throat she is not strong enough. Lisa is not able to eat or talk so it has been a rough 24 hours! Please continue to keep her health, her strength, and her family in your prayers! Thanks for all of your support!

Monday, Sept. 27
This has been a good day for Lisa. She has been up moving around and her appetite is good. Tomorrow is day 5 (and the final day this time) of the shot that increases her white blood cell count. She is able to give this to herself at home. This shot usually knocks her on her butt, but she is tolerating it well. She has to have this shot 5 days in a row after completing chemo. She is also still giving herself the blood thinner injection, twice a day. She is such a trooper:)
She is hoping to have several GOOD days before she has to start chemo again on Monday--- Maybe even get out of the house and enjoy this beautiful weather!!! We know that each day is a gift from God and we are so thankful for this.

Thursday, Sept 23.
Lisa was released from the hospital this morning!!! She was SO excited to get out of that place!! The second round of chemo is finished, and she is now back at her house. She is scheduled to start the 3rd round of chemo on Oct. 4th. Until then, she needs to continue to eat, drink, and grow stronger. The side effects usually happen 3-5 days after she finishes the chemo (which was last night around 11:30), so say an extra prayer for her this weekend.
Thank you for all of the donations made to this website and to the golf tournament tomorrow. Her family is greatly touched by the generosity of everyone. God bless you all.

Lisa had a restless night. She was in a lot of pain due to the fluid build up. She just had almost 3 L drained around 2:00. She said it hurt so bad because they had to drain her in a different place---they had to go around bowels and ribs, and it made her cry!!!!!! Please continue to pray for her. She needs comfort and rest right now. She wants to eat something and then sleep until they begin chemo later this afternoon. Her strength and determination are still so amazing.

FRIDAY, SEPT 17
The doctor started TPN this evening. They are going to try this for a few days, along with her eating herself, and see if she can gain some strength back. The plan is for her to recover this weekend, and maybe do chemo on Monday. She did eat some Mexican food today (thanks Renee...you're an angel) and some green beans and mashed pot. tonight. She is receiving medicine to help with nausea, so hopefully she can keep this food in her long enough to do some good. She is still very tired and weak, and doesn't really like having visitors at this time. Several people have stopped by to see her, and although she couldn't visit with you, she really appreciates your love and concern for her. Thank you all for your continued prayers.
Thursday, September 16, 2010
THURSDAY, SEPT 16
Lisa did not eat today. She has no appetite AT ALL, and doesn't even have the desire to eat. She was given an appetite stimulant today but that didn't work. We are praying that tomorrow something will be done to provide her body with nourishment. She wants to get stronger, start the chemo, and get the heck out of this hospital!!!!!
Wednesday, September 15, 2010
WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 15
Lisa did not have her second round of chemo today. The doctor is wanting her to get stronger before doing this. Lisa is still receiving saline, and was able to eat a piece of chicken satay today. She needs to eat more tomorrow, so please continue to pray for her. She is really wanting to get this second round started so she can go home and continue to let God heal her.
Tuesday, September 14, 2010
TUESDAY, SEPT 14
The doctor is giving Lisa an appetite stimulant in her IV today to see if that will help with her eating. They tested her to see if she had an infection, but that came back negative. (thought this might be contributing to her not eating)--so that was good news! She is continuing to receive saline through her IV to keep her hydrated. Pray for her to WANT to eat today.
Monday, September 13, 2010
MONDAY, SEPT. 13
Lisa is currently in the hospital (St. John's in Spfd) where she is being given fluids for dehydration. She is trying to get her strength up since she is scheduled for her second round of chemo on Wed. of this week. She isn't eating much, which is a concern, so continue to pray for an appetite and strength for her. She is staying positive, and is just wanting to get better. She can't wait to get to a beach and put her toes in the sand:) She will remain in the hospital until she is strong enough to go home. Thank you so much for your continued support and prayers.
Sunday, September 12, 2010
Update
Lisa was not feeling well and went back into the hospital this morning. She is catching up on much needed rest and gettting fluids. Please keep her in your prayers and we will keep you posted. Thanks for keeping up with her and for all of the support during this difficult time.

Sept. 5, 2010 (Sunday)
Lisa is at home and is glad to be there!! She is in some pain, but overall her body is handling the chemo very well. She is beginning to eat a little more, and is up and moving around. She will go back to the clinic this week for additional shots (5) to help with her white blood cell count. She will also get the fluid "tapped" on Tuesday, which will provide her relief and comfort. Her next round of chemo is scheduled for Sept. 15.

Sept. 3, FRIDAY
Lisa is still in the hospital in Springfield finishing the first round of chemo. There are 4 different drugs used, and they are administered through an IV, one at a time. She will then have chemo treatments every 2 weeks. She is hoping to go home tonight or in the morning. She is doing great and is in great spirits! Thank you to everyone for her birthday wishes/cards/gifts yesterday. It made her day even better!! Lisa is such a strong person, and her continued fight will BEAT this ugly cancer.

August 31, 2010--Tuesday
This morning, Lisa had 4 L of fluid drained from her abdomen. She also had a port put in, and that was a successful procedure. She is going to start the aggressive chemo tomorrow. Please pray for strength, courage, and comfort as she begins this treatment. Lisa is very brave and very inspiring. She is just ready to fight and BEAT this cancer. Thank you for your continued prayers.

The doctor wants to start chemo on Tues. or Wed, and will keep Lisa in the hospital to monitor this. Please pray for strength for Lisa. Another great website of information is http://www.pancan.org/. There are several suvivor stories on this, and we can't wait to add Lisa's story to the site! We thank you for your continued prayers.

Back home --August 28 (Sat.)
Our journey to the Mayo clinic in Rochester has now taken a different path. The doctors there found out that the cancer we are fighting is pancreatic cancer. Lisa is going to begin aggressive chemo, and we are very optimistic that the combo of drugs that will be used will bring incredible results. She is at home resting, and enjoying seeing her girls again. Lisa is very strong, and is ready to tackle this with full force. Lisa is believing, as are we, for awesome results from this chemo. She will have an incredible story to tell someday. We know God is working in her, and we know it is in his hands. Thank you again for all of your love, support, and prayers. You have no idea how much strength this have given Lisa and Steve. God bless you all.

We have been at Mayo all day. Lisa has clots on her lungs and they are giving her blood thinner after admitting her to the Methodist hospital for an overnight stay. The Doctors will do more testing tomorrow to find out exactly what they are dealing with. We are praying for God to work a miracle tonight and surprise those doctors in the morning! Lisa is strong and needs all of your prayers.

Saw the Springfield doctor. He confirmed what we already knew. We are heading to Mayo on Monday for a second opinion. A hysterectomy is the first step, along with debulking of masses in the peritoneum. We don't know if that will happen at Mayo or here in Springfield. We are praying for guidance and peace. Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.
